The Urban Country trend pairs simplicity with authentic natural elements. It’s a perfect blend of rural traditions and city-dwelling sophistication. With this trend, you’ll see soft woven textures, wood details and a muted color palette displayed through wide plank timber flooring and shiplap walls made from reclaimed wood. If your customers want a modern cottage in the city, this is the trend for them.

With this trend, you can get creative with trim and moulding to create linear patterns and simple wall textures. Kitchens and bathrooms are always challenging and fun spaces to design. The Urban Country look works well in both of these areas by creating an organized and clean atmosphere framed by crisp, linear trim. While white trim and moulding can open a room up, if homeowners are looking for something bolder, try one of the darker colors in the Urban Country color palette, such as a matte navy blue.

Here are two great examples of Urban Country done right that you can share with your customers to inspire their own designs.

A Bold Powder Room

Our first example is a bold powder room designed by Emily Henderson. It showcases a deep navy blue and plays with pattern and texture thanks to wide shiplap from our Option {M} Modern Farmhouse line. This treatment adds long, vertical lines, making the walls seem taller and the room more spacious. The use of chair rail and casing, as well as window stools and aprons, complete the look, adding period details and the fine craftsmanship often seen in this trend.

The result is an inviting balance of classic comfort and contemporary chic.

A Farmhouse Kitchen

Another great example of Urban Country is seen in this farmhouse-style kitchen designed by Jamie Banfield, who also used Option {M} Modern Farmhouse shiplap.

He not only used this style’s wide shiplap on the walls but on the vaulted ceiling as well, bringing in a feeling of the outdoors into the space. To add some softness to the kitchen, he used a transitional casing around the windows, which ultimately draws your eye to the beautiful view outside, as well as a matching baseboard.

The trim mimics the curves and angles of the space, all while adding character and maintaining a crisp and linear look.

For customers looking to embrace the raw beauty of nature, but who want to maintain a modern and sophisticated style, the Urban Country trend is the perfect solution to enhancing their space with quality craftsmanship and simple style.
